Prior to the opening of Reflections of a Dancer I posted a few images on my original blog:Before the Curtain Falls. A few days later I was contacted by a young poet, John Gosslee, asking me permission to use a few of my paintings to illustrate his poems in upcoming issues of Attitude: The Dancer’s Magazine, a beautiful magazine published in black and white, distributed through bookstores.
Naturally I agreed and sent John files of several paintings converted to black and white. I feel more comfortable doing the conversions myself rather than having the contrast compromised. I adore black and white imagery both in photography and in drawings and look forward to seeing the results in print. Having not seen an actual copy of the magazine, I do not know if the paper is matte or glossy. The result will be drastically different depending on the paper. I bumped the contrast slightly in case the paper is matte.
Not only is this a wonderful opportunity to have my work become a collaboration with John Gosslee, it is an opportunity for the dancers to experience the joy of having been an inspiration for other expressions of creativity.

I love that posting your paintings created a collaboration between artists. Sometimes I feel like blogs are sort of self-serving, and then when I hear about a connection like yours, I remember that making works public allows spurs creativity, even if you don’t realize it.
