Fort Lauderdale to Charleston Race

Yesterday Mike turned twenty-four aboard the Santarella, quite an extraordinary place to spend a birthday.  He was midshipman in the Fort Lauderdale to Charleston Race.  This was the second time he participated.  This year, the winds were not favorable for racing.  Only six of the ten boats scheduled to race set out on March 31st for Charleston.  By the next morning, Teamwork and Jasmine withdrew due to lack of wind.  Shortly after, Esprit and Chasing Rainbows headed to shore.  That left only Santarella and BandanaSantarella was sailing well.  The internet allowed me to track the race.  By evening it appeared that Santarella was also headed to shore.  Eventually, Bandana also gave up the race.  The wind conditions made it impossible to complete the race within the 72 hour time limit.
