Betty's Brushes, Watercolor Warm Up Sketch

Morning Warm Up Watercolor:

The awkward drawing of the brushes snagged me a bit.  I found myself fussing, trying to correct the drawing.  The purpose of the morning warm ups is to keep moving the paint and not to fuss.  I forced myself to walk away with the excuse of needing another cup of coffee.  When I came back I kept the energy going, accepting the shapes of the brushes as they are.

“….. do not worry about the drawing, make the thing as ugly as you like, but put down the colors, matching one against another.”  (Charles W. Hawthorne, Hawthorne on Painting, copyright 1938)

Betty wrote a little note on one of the brushes.  It reads ” for rough uneven edges and foliage, etc.”
