The changes made to this painting are more dramatic than the changes in the painting I posted yesterday.
The painting on the left was painted en plein air in my backyard. I have little to no patience when it comes to painting fences. The only element of the painting I liked was the tree on the left, simple, strong shapes. I decided to paint out the fence and redefine the pine on the right, strengthening the shape and giving it a bit of character. By bringing it forward, an illusion of space is created, allowing the viewer into the landscape. The tree now looks as if it might like to tango…..
painting: oil on wood panel, en plain air.
